We are up and at em in the field house with just minutes until our first 6:30 am practice of the season. The team should be well-rested from a nice, relaxing Monday off after a tough weekend of workouts. They seem excited to hit the ground running with some softball! Day 1 in the Books…
Our girls came back sharp and ready to go. After a tough circuit workout, our girls tackled a hitting circuit. Looks to us like people worked hard over winter break! The pitchers had a tough workout as well, and after a few ice baths and a good team meal, they are ready for tomorrow. Keep on keepin on Mason Softball!
And so it begins…
With about a day left before the first day of practice, and three days before the first day of class, the team has started to arrive on campus and unpack. I’ve been back in town for about two weeks now, spending time completing the last couple pre-season workouts and working on campus.
It has been one big countdown until games. Even before we left for winter break, a number of girls were saying, “Only 67 days before our first game!” Needless to say, we’re excited that it is now down to 21. We received our calendars from Coach Verbanic, which I have printed out and hung on a wall in my room. The first trip to Coastal Carolina is just three weeks away! Time flies when you’re having fun.
Our first practice is at noon tomorrow. It’ll be great to see everyone in one place again, and hear about everyone’s holiday. Perhaps more importantly, it will be great to get to work with everyone again. Usually the first weekend of practices includes an emphasis on conditioning and/or cardio. While we are unsure of what form this will take in practice this weekend, our strength and conditioning coach recommended that we run timed 400’s to ensure that we are prepared.
Some team members have been back for a short while, and I think the most common theme among us is our anticipation for the season. While we are looking forward to the routine that class brings, we are very excited to start practices, and even more excited to start games. This is what we look forward to all year. This is what we work for, what we prepare for. We are itching to be ready for the oncoming competition. And it all starts back up tomorrow.

This blog has been designed to give our fans and supporters an inside look to the Mason Softball Program. The blog will feature contributions from many of our players, the coaching staff and maybe even some guest writers!
We are very much looking forward to getting the 2012 season underway, and with out first game quickly approaching, everyone is anxious to get to work.
